Description

Make a quick and delicious red velvet cake for your Valentine.


Ingredients

  • 1 box red velvet cake mix
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. For the frosting, beat together the cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  7. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until light and fluffy.
  8. Stir in the vanilla extract. Add red food coloring if desired.
  9. Frost the cooled cake.
