Description

These chocolate sugar cookies are perfect for any holiday. They are soft, chewy, and delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Chocolate sprinkles, for decorating (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  8. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
  9. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets.
  10. Decorate with sprinkles, if desired.
  11. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set.
  12. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For best results, use room temperature butter.
  • Do not overbake the cookies. They should still be soft when you take them out of the oven.
  • You can store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
