Description
These chocolate sugar cookies are perfect for any holiday. They are soft, chewy, and delicious.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Chocolate sprinkles, for decorating (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets.
- Decorate with sprinkles, if desired.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For best results, use room temperature butter.
- Do not overbake the cookies. They should still be soft when you take them out of the oven.
- You can store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
