Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 to 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in the egg, melted butter, and salt.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.
- Place rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Brush tops with melted butter immediately after removing from oven.
Notes
- For richer rolls, you can add an extra tablespoon of butter to the dough.
- Ensure your milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
- You can make the dough ahead of time and refrigerate it overnight. Let it come to room temperature before shaping.
