Description

A popular Indian dish with marinated chicken in a creamy tomato sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine chicken, yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove chicken from pan and set aside.
  3. Add chopped onion to the pan and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Return the chicken to the pan. Add heavy cream and water. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  6. Garnish with cilantro and serve with rice or naan.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of red chili powder to your taste.
  • You can add a pinch of sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes.
