Description
A rich chocolate cake with cherries.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh or frozen cherries, pitted and halved
- Chocolate frosting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Gently fold in the cherries.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Frost with chocolate frosting.
Notes
- You can use store-bought or homemade chocolate frosting.
- For a richer flavor, add a tablespoon of coffee to the batter.
