Description

A rich and decadent chocolate cake with a fudgy texture.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Gradually add the boiling water to the batter, mixing until combined. The batter will be thin.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
  • You can frost the cake with your favorite chocolate frosting.
