Description

A traditional recipe for rich and creamy eggnog, perfect for the holidays.

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs, separated
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, plus more for garnish
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1/2 cup bourbon, rum, or brandy

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and 1/2 cup of the sugar until pale and thick.
  2. Gradually whisk in the milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. If using alcohol, stir it in now.
  4. In a separate clean bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
  5. Gradually add the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar and continue beating until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  6. Gently fold the egg whites into the yolk mixture until just combined.
  7. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
  8. Serve cold, garnished with a sprinkle of nutmeg.

Notes

  • For a thicker eggnog, use fewer eggs or add an extra yolk.
