Description

A rich, decadent chocolate torte perfect for Valentine’s Day.


Ingredients

  • 6 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
  • Fresh berries, for serving (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Melt the chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.
  3. Whisk in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt.
  4. Whisk in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is slightly soft.
  7. Let cool completely in the pan before inverting onto a serving plate.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with fresh berries, if desired.
