Description

A rich chocolate cake with Guinness, topped with cream cheese frosting.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Guinness
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Cream Cheese Frosting: 8 ounces cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar, ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a saucepan, combine Guinness and butter. Heat until butter melts. Whisk in cocoa powder.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add the Guinness mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until combined.
  5. Add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  7. Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
  8. For the frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  9. Frost the cooled cake.
