Description
A rich chocolate cake with Guinness, topped with cream cheese frosting.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Guinness
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- ¾ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Cream Cheese Frosting: 8 ounces cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar, ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a saucepan, combine Guinness and butter. Heat until butter melts. Whisk in cocoa powder.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the Guinness mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until combined.
- Add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
- For the frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
- Frost the cooled cake.
