Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Frosting of your choice
  • Sprinkles for decoration


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the vanilla and almond extracts, then the egg.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Divide the dough in half. Roll out each half to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  7. Cut out two large heart shapes using a heart-shaped cookie cutter or template.
  8. Place the hearts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Let the cookies cool completely.
  11. Frost one heart with your chosen frosting.
  12. Carefully place the second heart on top of the frosted one.
  13. Decorate the top with sprinkles.
