A comforting dish with a savory meat base and a fluffy mashed potato topping.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1 lb ground lamb or beef
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp dried rosemary
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 cup frozen peas
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 3 lbs potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tbsp butter
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Add onion, carrots, and celery; cook until softened.
- Add ground meat; cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in thyme, rosemary, and beef broth. Simmer for 15 minutes.
- Stir in peas and season with salt and pepper.
- Boil potatoes until tender. Drain and mash with milk and butter.
- Spoon meat mixture into a baking dish. Top with mashed potatoes.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Notes
- You can add a layer of cheese on top of the meat mixture before adding the potatoes.
- For a vegetarian option, use lentils or a mix of vegetables instead of meat.
