Description

A delicious red velvet cake shaped like a heart, perfect for special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 ounce red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • Frosting: 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a heart-shaped cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the buttermilk, food coloring, and vinegar.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat together the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla, beating until light and fluffy.
  9. Frost the cooled cake.
