Description
These Apple Oat Crunch Bones are simple homemade dog treats made with fresh apple, rolled oats, egg, and oat flour. They bake into crunchy, rustic treats that are perfect as an occasional snack for your pup.
Ingredients
- 1 cup finely grated apple
- 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup oat flour
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened applesauce (optional)
- 1–2 tablespoons water (only if needed)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Wash the apple, remove the stem, core, and seeds, then finely grate it.
- Place the grated apple in a clean towel and gently squeeze out excess moisture.
- Combine the grated apple, rolled oats, egg, oat flour, and optional applesauce in a mixing bowl.
- Mix until a thick dough forms. Add more oat flour if too wet, or water one tablespoon at a time if too dry.
- Roll the dough out or flatten it by hand and cut into bone shapes, sticks, or bite-sized pieces.
- Arrange the treats on the prepared baking tray.
- Bake for 25–32 minutes until firm and lightly golden.
- For extra crunch, turn off the oven and leave the treats inside for 10–15 minutes with the door slightly open.
- Cool completely before serving.
Notes
Always remove the apple seeds, core, and stem before using apples. Do not add sugar, honey, chocolate, raisins, nutmeg, salt, butter, or xylitol. Store fully cooled treats at room temperature for up to 3 days if crunchy, refrigerate for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
