Description

These Sweet Potato Oat Dog Sticks are simple homemade dog treats made with cooked sweet potato, rolled oats, egg, and oat flour. They bake into soft, hearty sticks that make wonderful occasional treats or training rewards.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked mashed sweet potato
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup oat flour
  • 12 tablespoons water (if needed)
  • 1 teaspoon plain unsweetened applesauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the sweet potato until soft, allow it to cool, then mash until smooth.
  3. Combine the mashed sweet potato, rolled oats, egg, and oat flour in a mixing bowl.
  4. Mix until a thick dough forms. Add extra oat flour if too sticky, or water one tablespoon at a time if too dry.
  5. Shape the dough into short rustic sticks.
  6. Arrange the sticks on the prepared baking tray with a little space between each.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes until lightly golden and firm on the outside.
  8. Allow the treats to cool completely before serving.

Notes

Use plain cooked sweet potato only. Do not add butter, salt, sugar, spices, garlic, onion, or sweeteners. Store treats in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 2 months. Serve as an occasional treat alongside a balanced diet.
